What Are the Golf Cart Rules on Jekyll Island?

Georgia state laws that went into effect Jan. 2, 2012, states all golf carts must have the following equipment:

1. A BRAKING SYSTEM SUFFICIENT FOR THE WEIGHT AND PASSENGER CAPACITY OF THE VEHICLE, INCLUDING A PARKING BRAKE;

2. A REVERSE WARNING DEVICE FUNCTIONAL AT ALL TIMES WHEN THE DIRECTIONAL CONTROL IS IN REVERSE;

3. A MAIN POWER SWITCH. WHEN THE SWITCH IS IN THE “OFF” POSITION, OR THE KEY OR OTHER DEVICE THAT ACTIVATES THE SWITCH IS REMOVED, THE MOTIVE POWER CIRCUIT SHALL BE INOPERATIVE. IF THE SWITCH USES A KEY, IT SHALL BE REMOVABLE ONLY IN THE “OFF” POSITION;

4. HEAD AND TAIL LIGHTS, REFLEX REFLECTORS, SAFETY WARNING LABELS, HORN, AND REAR VIEW MIRROR;

5. HIP RESTRAINTS (EACH PASSENGER MUST HAVE THEIR OWN SEAT BELT) AND HAND HOLDS.

NO GOLF CARTS ALLOWED ON BICYCLE PATHS.

THE GEORGIA STATE PATROL WILL REQUIRE THAT THE TRANSPORTATION OF ALL CHILDREN BE IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE CHILD SAFETY SEAT AND BOOSTER SEAT LAWS.

THIS LAW DOES NOT AFFECT THE USE OF ALL-TERRAIN VEHICLES ON THE PUBLIC ROADS, WHICH IS STILL STRICTLY PROHIBITED.


What Is Required to Get Married on Jekyll Island?
There are no reservations or permits required for beach weddings, but be sure to check the tidal charts so that you'll have plenty of room for your ceremony.

MARRIAGE LICENSE
Cost: $26 to $30
Residency Requirements: Obtain license from your county clerk. Your license is valid statewide. If neither partner is a resident of Georgia, you must apply for a license in the county where you are getting married.

Waiting period: None.

Age requirement: 18 years of age or older. If one partner is under 18 years of age, a parental consent form must be signed.

Blood tests: Not required in Georgia.

Expiration date: A marriage license never expires.

What are the Pet Regulations of Jekyll Island?

  • Pets must be under immediated control of their owners and on a leash no longer than 16' at all times.
  • No pets allowed on South Beach - between South Dunes Picnic Area and 2000' Northeast of St. Andres Sound Picnic Area.
  • Pet owners are to remove and dispose of pet fecal material.


General Rules and Regulations of Jekyll Island

  • Bikes should be ridden on the bike paths.
  • Bike helmets are required for riders age 16 & younger.
  • No golf carts allowed on bicycyle paths.
  • No vehicles on the beach.
  • ATVs are not allowed anywhere - Georgia State Law.
  • No fires on the beach.
  • No glass containers on the beach.
  • Stay off Dunes.
  • Only take home empty shells and dead sand dollars.
  • Pets must be under immediated control of their owners and on a leash no longer than 16' at all times.
  • No pets allowed on South Beach - between South Dunes Picnic Area and 2000' Northeast of St. Andres Sound Picnic Area.
  • Stay away from marked turtle nests.
  • Fill in sand castles and holes on the beach.
  • Pet owners are to remove and dispose of pet fecal material.
  • Feeding of any wild animals is prohibited.
  • No fishing in fresh water lakes.
  • Metal or mineral detection devices are prohibited.
  • No fireworks.
  • No overnight parking in public areas.
  • Do not approach sea turtles and stay clear of marked sea turtle nests.
  • Please protect the sea turtles by not using artificial white lights on the beach at night.

Jekyll Island Parking Fee

Vehicle entry to Jekyll Island requires a valid parking pass which must be purchased at the Guest Information Center upon arrival on the island. This pass gives you access to many of the public outdoor areas on the island, including picnic areas, beach parking and access points, playground, soccer complex, historic landmark district, fishing pier, bicycle and nature trails and more. The Parking Fee is charged per vehicle per entry per day. Multi-day passes are available for your convenience and an Annual Parking Decal is available. Bicycles and pedestrians can enter at no charge.
